    Rebuilding Outboard Motor

If you make the financial decision to rebuild your motor. What would you require from your mechanic ? Like all completely new parts no reusing. Would you replace fuel lines ? What I am trying to look for is something like a checklist on everything that should be completed when rebuilding a powerhead.

    Re: Rebuilding Outboard Motor (deadeyed)

well there are different degrees of a rebuild.

a complete overhaul and a general refresh.

if you have any bad cyls that ,when measured, need to be bored DO NOT only bore out the problem cyls......... it is a common practice in the ob world.

other than that i would want new bearings, rings ,gaskets ,fuel pump cleaned and checked ,electrical/ignition components tested ,carbs rebuilt ,and yes definately new fuel lines...... unless they are fairly new......... and the most important of all i would want an itemized bill........ and some type of warranty would be nice.

what year/size eng are you having rebuilt??...... some older engs have discontinued parts.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.....teach him to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
