    Re: OMC Props (354ranger)

You can hunt around on Ebay, I just bought a nice chopper there for less then 120 bucks.

I have an 18 footer with a 175 OMC on it. I have a 25p shooter, that really needs a rework. But it comes out of the hole pretty strong if I have the motor down on the jackplate where it can get a good bite. It doesn't have the lift of a raker, and it is about 3 to 4 mph slower at the same height setting (low) as the raker, it loses more speed as I raise the engine, and it also loses its ability to get me out of the hole.

24p raker is a nice all around prop, it doesn't come out of the hole really strong for me, no matter where I seem to set the jackplate. I added a Bob's Machine Shop hydrofoil, and it helps with holeshot at higher engine heights, which is where I am now. My raker is also not fond of pulling people on tubes, it takes a little bit to get out of the hole, although I am working on a cure for that. So far I have gotten about 58 mph out of the raker, although I don't know my rpms yet, I have to fix the tach. It has a lot of lift though, and it ventilates when it pops over on plane.

I just got a 24p chopper, and will be trying it out this weekend. I have heard I won't be able to plane, to all it will do is ventilate, yada yada yada. I am going to try it and see. I had to get an OMC washer for the back and grind it down so it would fit the hub, but other then that, the prop fits my OMC fine, I am using the thrust washer from my shooter prop.

My Brother in law has a 4 blade prop that came off a mercury, and I am also going to try it this weekend. I don't know what it is though. Its not a trophy, so it must be some other kind of Merc prop.

If you PM me later on, I will let you know how the others do. I will be out of town for a week though, so it will be late next weekend before I can let you know.

    Re: OMC Props (Lockjaw)

Lockjaw, I am sure you know but when I hear OMC and tach not working, might want to test your regulator/rectifier. Maybe tach, if not it will be the rectifier. Dont stray over and get a after market rectifier either, go Bomb parts all the way. Pricey but dependable and built to last.

    Re: OMC Props (Kerry201pro)

Kerry I am going to work on that this weekend. Going to check the connections on the power strip, and then rectifier. It works everyone once in a while, and then stops. And usually only at idle, once I throttle it up, the tach bounces all around, and then quits.

    Re: OMC Props (Lockjaw)

Thanks for the vote of confidence Kerry!!! I bought a 27 Gade that looks great and performs like it should for only 150.00 on the props for sale forums. Check it out!!!
Lockjaw, Nephews tach was doing that then one day we were fishing and the most black stinkin' smoke ya ever saw was coming outta tha cowling. Took the cover off and sure enough the rectifier was on fire!! Disconnected the battery then disconnected the rectifier and was able to fish the rest of the day, just didn't run any electronics to keep from draining the battery.
