    Need some pointers please.

Hello. I need some pointers from some of you seasoned rod building pros. I have an old rod that I am stripping all the way down to the blank and I'm gonna venture into a rod rebuild project. I can get the cork off because I have redone some handles before, but what is the best way to remove the reel seat and the epoxy around the old guides. I'm sure I can find a way to get it off of there, but I would like to do it the right way whatever that is so I don't damage the blank. Also do I have to have any special tools to wrap the guides? Any info would be great.

I use and extco knife for the guides but be very careful not to get into the blank. as for the reel seat I use a dremel tool with a cutting wheel.

As far as wrapping guides, I went for years just using a cup to contain the spool(s) while wrapping & a book to provide tension on the thread.
A drying motor is a must for using high-build finishes to avoid sagging.
Like anything else, you can take it as far as you want to.

    Wrap on & enjoy.

As far as seat removal, a dremel and cut off wheel is the way to go. Just cut along the left and right sides and be extremely careful not to hit the blank. TAKE YOUR TIME. Then use a screwdriver to pop the two pieces apart.

You an try cutting along one side, but both is a lot eaier and it always works.
