Same thread as guides. Size A rodwinding thread - although B or D would work as well. You're going to need to coat it with rod finish just like a guide.
Well, if you have a cork or eva foam front grip, I can give you a 2 minute fix to add a hook/drop weight keeper. Now is it as fancy as wrapping one, no, does it work for me, yes. But you have to have front handles that allow for it. I don't have the money to invest in a lot of high end rods and many of mine are getting pretty darn old. So necessity was the mother of invention. Oh and BTW you can use the for wrapping method as well. And well I gues the cats out of the bag now...![]()
I make them from SS leader wire and bond them in with Parfix 200 (a medium fast cure speed Cyanoacrylate Adhesive) and well, it is quick and effective.

Cheaper to keep a kid in tourney fishing than paying attorneys to keep them out of jail !!
other super easy Hook keeper it to take a zip tie or a wire tie and a split ring right above the reel seat

if we're going easy... rubber band around the handle. Works great for drop shot and can be used with a hooked lure.
hey just wrap it with regular thread. It also depends on the type of hook keeper that you're going to use. On some hook keepers you have to file the foot so that the thread can climb up easily.
can you give a link to the SS leader wire you use? What is the diameter?
Not sure if this link will work or not but it is Malin SS leader wire 278lb .035"
I use round nose pliers cut about 3" fold it once in the middle then fold over about 1/4" with a second bend. Then I straighten the legs and trim to the length needed.
