more 150xp problems or actually the orginal problem rears it's ugly head

I bought a 1990 nitro earlier this year. All year it has sat at a friend who is a mechanic at a marine repair shop.I just got it back.

He replaced the primer solenoid on the engine. He said it floods very easily and I should replace the plugs which he said were the wrong ones.

I primed the engine to start it and smelled gas, I pulled the cover and noticed the top carb had fuel dripping from it. I watched and squeezed the primer ball and same thing.

I understand the fuel has to go somewhere but would it do it to all carbs if that were the case?

Here's the model number, serial number and the plug brand and number currently in it:

    mod:te150slesb
    ser:08291366
    Plugs: autolite 4092.

I'm assuming I should go back the the champions evinrude recommends?

Tell your bud thanks for helping you out! Champ QL77JC4's gaped at .030 sounds like the carbs need to be gone though. Nope they don't flood easily if everything is in sync and tuned properly. Should bust off the 3rd crank if set right and starting procedure is followed.

I thanked him numerous times and he only charged me about half shop rate and his cost on parts which I'm sure saved me a ton.

I'll change the plugs first thing tomorrow afternoon then we can go from there. Dripping from the top carb may be too subtle a term, it poured out really enough fill half a coffee cup or so.

    new problem:

When I originally got the boat my mechanic said there was no spark on one side but it was because of spark plugs.

When I went out to start it we now have no spark again one side. I switched coils around to no avail.

    Is this a cdi issue?

Is there anything else I could check for before buying a power pack, or is there a way to make sure it's bad??

I just don't want to throw parts at this thing. The poke and hope gets pretty expensive.........

It should have a T pack, swap timer base leads and attach a timing light to the side that isn't firing. With the TB leads swapped crank the motor and let it start if it moves timer base if not power pack. You also need to check the stator's output as it supplies voltage to the system. But if all 3 on one side are out a PP is the best roll of the dice.

the 3 that are out are all one one bank. Power pack it is. Is there a decent place to buy a used or new one.

No flames for suggestion of used please, I understand used ignition parts are never a good idea but it would be a cheap fix for the rest of the season until I can buy a new one in the spring.
