Glue them in after powder coating is the best way I have found. Use Super Glue GEL not the regular stuff.

Pour them in,then cut a cocktail straw and slip over the guard when heating them up for powder paints. With the straw on cure them at 250 in the oven for 20 min.The straw keeps the weed guard in shape.

I epoxy them in after powder painting, devcon 2t leaves a nicer finish then any glue, glue turns white and doesn't look that good if you get it anywhere on the jig. Plus with the epoxy there ain't no way that weedguard is coming out of there!

Both of the stores has it. I think its around $2.00 at walmart. I buy the 5 minute handling time so it dont take so long to cure.

Devcon 2 ton is avialable at Walmart, home Dpot, Lowes. Its a 2 part epoxy, and takes a little getting used to working with it, but man its good stuff. I can't take a needle nose and get that weedguard out of the head once that epoxy sets up, plust it dries crystal clear and adds to the finished look of the jig. Just my personal opinion, and the fish probably don't care but I like fishing with nice looking baits!

Thanks guys. How long do you have to work with it before it hardens? Could I mix enough to glue in say 50 weedguards without it hardening?

    Re: Weedguard ? (Merc-man)

Depends, you can also thin it with acetone, just a couple drops, but I don't recommend that if your using it as a glue, if you work fast you should be able to do about 50. Just amke sure that you mix it evenly (it comes in a 2 piece tube for dispensing so its pretty easy)

I mold my in and than powder coat the heads and cure them for one hour at 400 degree. I have little trouble with warping of my weedgaurds, after they cure i use vinyl paint for the eye balls.

Devcon works great but a $3 tube of 5 minute epoxy dries solid after about 10 jigs so it isn't cost effective.

    Re: Weedguard ? (Munkin)

Get the regular 2 ton epoxy clear weld epoxy. It has a 30 minute cure time so you should be able to do 50 or so before it sets up too much. I've also read on here that you can use the bottom of a coke can to mix it in and the coolness of the can keeps it from setting up too quick.
