    Painting Spinnerbaits

Hey guys I did some searching on ere without success on painting Spinnerbaits. My question is what kind of paints do you guys use and do you use Air Brush or just a model paint brush? Also I heave read that some of you use a self leveling epoxy. What brands of those do you use??

I use acrylic paint and clear coat with devcon 2 ton epoxy or Envirotex crystal sheen.

Thanks for the info Mike. I take it you just brush it on instead of spraying?

Yes you can brush on the base coat and air brush details if you like before the clear goes on.

Powder paint is a hoot. Watch some of the youtube videos and give it a try.

    Re: Painting Spinnerbaits (Master Baiter)

I got some of the powder paint to try out. What is a fluid bed that I keep reading about? Any of you guys use those?

A fluid bed swirls air into the powder paint, making it appear liquid. This gives you a thinner and more uniform coat of powder from jig to jig. For painting with one color, it is the way to go. Until you get one, you should shake your powder paint regularly (w/the lid on). This keeps the powder from caking onto the jig. There are numerous videos on the 'net. There are also instructions to make your own.

Material list: Aquarium pump, plastic tubing, flow control valve, 3" pvc coupling, 3"x 3" length pvc pipe, 4"x 4" base (I used lexan), paper lunch bag, and silicone.

There are many heat sources to choose from, but I have found a heat gun and toaster oven to be invaluable.

Acetone only for me. Not nail polish remover. This was reccomended to me by a devcon product knowledge specialist.

    Re: Painting Spinnerbaits (Master Baiter)

I have used the fluid beds for powder but dont use it anymore. If you are swtiching colors ofter like me try shaking thepowder in their original jars. When it gets dense, just shake it again. If you arent using eyes on the spinners, finish with clear powder all in one heating. If you are using eyes you have to cure the powder then apply eyes and clear. Eyes can either be adhesives or you can dot them on using liquid paint. As far as clear, I prefer Dick Nite's clear coat. The Devcon can become brittle and break where the DN has a little flex. Just depends on your taste. The DN is a one part coating that cures with air moisture. If you order the DN through the link below, you recieve a hefty discount...just follow the special ordering instructions. This discount is made available for http://www.tackleunderground.com members.
