I just sold a 2006 225 HO. I am ordering a new boat and was looking for opinions on the 2009 / 2010 motors. No one that I know has a new one. I know there have been a lot of motor changes (dual oil rail system, updated maps, new gear ratio in the lower units, etc). How are they running and are you guys out there having any problems propping this motor?
I know the 250 is giving people fits trying to find the right prop and so forth. I wondered if this was a problem with the 225 HO as well?

I am on the fence. I will get another 20' boat most likely similar to the one I had. I am trying to decide on the engine. I have been with Evinrude for 14 years now and for a brand loyal kind of guy, it would be hard to go with another brand. I am just looking for some opinions on the 2009 and 2010 225 HO's. I do not know anyone who has one of the newer models. I guess I am looking for someone to push me off the fence one way or another. Going over to the dark side is hard for an Evinrude man to do. I know you understand that. You are as die hard as I am.
i just upgraded my 04 225ho to a 09 250ho etec, and i love it..
I'm in the same situation. I'm a long time Evinrude owner, but the injector and blown powerhead problems with my current Etec 250, along with knowledge of so many others with the same problem, pretty much has me looking in other directions. Hate to say it because customer service and warranty has always been excellent.
Honestly, the 225 HO will give better hole shot, The 250 will be a bit slower coming up but will have more displacement to run a heavier load. I like the 225 HO on just about any boat that wants to go fast and have good hole shot.
I could not find enough positive info to make me continue down the Evinrude path. I have decided to change brands and go over to the dark side. I sincerely hope that BRP gets their issues worked out so maybe I can come back to the family in the future.

Champ you are right!!! I have not seen one yet that I could not break. It was a hard decision and I wanted to stay with Evinrude. I really did but I weighed everything out and decided to go another direction. If it does not work out, I can always come back to the family.
