Titanium or Not

How can you tell the difference between the Titanium SIC Guides from Non-titanium SIC Guides? Looking at a used custom rod here and how can I tell if its Titanium like he stated?

Great question but i'm pretty sure that the solid Titaniums are chrome in color but much more of a matte chrome as opposed to bright shiny chrome.Hope this helps ya out some maybe one of the other guys that build will offer something.

I have several old All star Titanium guide rods and they appear (at least the inner ring) as black chrome finish, unlike the re-coil guides like on my GLX rods, don't know if they are Titanium or SS. Back when I did build rods for myself I always got the SiC guides...........G

Titanium guides will have a shiny gunsmoke finish unlike a chrome plated finish. If you are using titanium know that some are titanium frame and others are titanium finish over stainless steel.

Don't confuse Titanium with Silicone Carbide for ring material. SIC is the material the guide ring is made from. Titanium is the material the guide frame is made from. The only thing better than SIC as a ring material is called Gold Cermet. {thats in the Fuji line up of guides} but its also quite pricey.
