    Questions on Rod Building

I am kind of new to this although I have wrapped guides back on my rods when broken off. I am wanting to build some of my own and have a couple questions. The blanks I see on the Mudholes website from Lumniglass. I am assuming these come complete except for the guides. If I do not care about all the fancy wrapping is this all they need or is there more to it than just that. What would be a good beginners book if I wanted to buy one. Also, I have seen stands that you'll put these rods on to wrap and build but do not see one on their web site. Do you'll build your own or is there some place to buy them.

Thanks and feel sure I will have more questions once I get started in this.

Mudholes catalog has pretty good instrutctions in it (Free). Flex coat also has a pretty good one. These both just tell you the basics but are pretty good. Of course there many others. I bought a flex coat from e-bay for $2.
    Good luck

There is a book out there that was written by Tom Kirkman on rodbuilding, check out the website rodbuilding.org and also rodguild.com there is plenty of info on these two sites that will help you out

I am lucky enough to have Mudhole within a short drive. Well my wife would say unlucky enough

They are a great bunch of folks there at Mudhole. Anyway, they sell kits. You may want to start with one of those. If you buy a blank I would suggest getting the handle and guides in a kit. Takes the guessing out of it when you are just beginning. If you don't opt to get a complete kit and decide on using just a handle kit and guide kit, you would need to also get a tiptop, small and medium cork reamer assuming you already have a wrapping rig, epoxy and thread.

If you need everything I would look into the kits from Cabelas as they are fairly complete. On Mudhole's website there is a rod building 101 link, and there is a good walk through of building a rod. Besides that I got the Kirkman book being suggested and it was a great read and I still look back to it often. (They sell the book at Mudhole as well)
