GLX Prices are out of hand!!!!

I dont know about any of the other builders that visit this board but I sit back and laugh at what the GLX series of factory rods are selling for...............And whats worse people are paying those rediculious prices!!!!
Hell I can build a custom on a GLX blank for what they are selling their factory rods for. Not that I like to do it with the fragile nature of the GLX blanks...................

But rest assured!!!! There is a blank being worked on by an awesome blank mfg along with a person well known in the rod building industry right now!
It will have the characteristics of the GLX(sensitivity and weight) but will have the durability of your lesser grade IM6 rods................

Just look at this and tell me if you would do this to your GLX?? (THIS BLANK IS NOT OF A LOOMIS BLANK!!!!!!!!)

Nope, don't want to try that one with my GLX. Not even half that.

    That is something right there!

looks like an ugly stick to me!!!

    ;)

i would consider that blank to have a soft tip... gives meaning to the term "noodle rod"

as for the GLX, premium product = premium price. Plus alot of the initial cost for the factory GLX rod is for the warranty.

Jim, whether that is a soft rod or not...its more of a drop shot blank BTW.............if it were a GLX would you chance doing that to it? I doubt it......
And you hit the nail on the head with your last comment!!!

The reason a GLX costs so much is that Loomis has figured in replacing the rod probably twice!!!!

Hopefully these new blanks that will be out soon will help the custom builder compete!

GLX aren't worth the price. I have too many GL3 to list and have never broken one and my wife has never either, she sets the hook harder than I do she primary fishes a jig or buzzbait

Broke my favorite rod 7' m-hvy IMX. I also have some avid spinning rods but prefer GL3 casting.

    peace out

If he's carrying those blanks then they are good. His threadmaster is terrific
and on occasoin he has some wonderful deals on All Star rod closeouts.

You know, I don't want to buy a rod that might have to be replaced twice. I also think the price of the GLX rods are ridiculous and just not worth it. I'm sorry, this might start a firestorm but I don't think there is that much difference in a lot of these rods. IMX vs. GLX vs. some Kistler vs. etc., etc., etc... Fishermen make the difference, not the rod or the rods sesitivity. For years I basically used Billy Westmorland Graphite and Glass rods and did pretty well. Then I started listening to everyone talking about how if I the had the newest Xw47 Flippin'Crankin'Pitchin'DropShot Rods I would catch more fish.. You know, I never did catch more fish, I just had less money. Now granted, some rods are more comfortable because they are lighter but not by that much. I don't know that my body, through my hands can tell the difference between 3.1 oz. and 4.0 oz.
I was always able to feel light pickups and such when worm fishing. No difference now. The rods I used to use cost about $60.00 apiece. Compare that to a GLX at $340.00 or a Kistler Helium. It's not worth the difference. Not to me anyway. And I would bet not to a lot of people if they would admit it.

    Re: (Bill Barham)

I agree Bill. As I've moved up the rod quality ladder I've yet to see a really big difference in sensitivity, at least not enough to justify the outrageous prices these companies are charging. We won't even get into the numerous posts from members on various boards I visit wondering about the warranties because their super rod broke over the weekend. These upper end rods are starting to remind me of the early versions of graphite rods we had in the late 70's that were prone to break way too easily.

http://These upper end rods are star... easily.<br />

Or the Boron rods that were hyped to death right after all the manufacturers needed something else to sell after the graphite boom started slowing down.

Dont worry guys........................Once I can find the resources($$) to order a few of the new
CTS/Andy Dear blanks everyone will have the option to get a Custom built on a rod that
will be as light as a GLX without the worry of breaking it!!!

    Re: (RedneckfromRI)

My Jury is still out on that, I'll have to hold it in my hands to have an opinion. The GLX feels nice but i can't tell the diff between that or an IMX and when i'm on the water fishing i'm not paying any attention trying to determine what the rod weighs. If you want feel then switch from mono to braid now thats feel. Good Luck All.
