    ? for Rusty or anyone

I'm trying to help one of my friends figure out the problem with his motor. He has a 2000 Ficht 225 on an 02 21XL Stratos Hull. Last year one of the pins holding the rings come out and he lost that cylinder. Motor was rebuilt and run good as new for about 2 months and then one of the pistons completely come apart and trashed the entire block, head's, crank and pretty much everything. The mechanic that done all the work is one of the best around for Evinrude and he said he had never seen a piston do what it did. Anyhow, the extended warranty paid for a new powerhead. The problem is the boat has lost a bunch of top end since this power head has been put on. He runs a 26p Raker and before he could turn it to 6000 rpm's easy and he can't even quite get it to 5500 now. I don't know if he was suppose to be turning that engine that high but that was how he always ran it, 6000 2 people loaded and with one person it would be bumping the limiter. It would always hit at least 72 with 2 people in it and now the fastest the gps has shown is 64.6. Do you know of anything that could be causing this performance drop or could this just be a weak powerhead. The mechanic that does his work has looked at a lot of things on it but can't find any problems. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
One other thing, the bottom end performance is still fine. Takeoff is still just as good. Only problems are on the top end.
    Sorry such a long post
    Thanks

Some fine test can be done to improve the performace, TPS range (%), Fuel pressure, CPS gap, spark plugs gap and indexing, besides maping. Do not forget to decarb evey 50 hours.

According with manual a 225 2000 must get 6000 RPM.

Ask your mechanic with a palm or lap top to add extra fuel and check if the RPM increase.

    Take care,

    RICARDO!

The TPS and fuel pressure have been checked along with 2 different sets of plugs on top of the first set put in after the powerhead was bolted on. Its been hooked up on the computer 3 times now. The first time the timing was off 1 degree and the mechanic fixed that while he had it hooked up to the PC. This did add 1 MPH to its current top end but that is still all its getting now. Everything checks out good on the computer with it. Also ran the injector cleaner through it and this did not help anything either.

What is the TPS voltage when the throttle is at WOT?

Has a cylinder drop test been performed at WOT?

The mechanic did not check anything at wide open throttle. Everything was at idle or just slightly revved. He was using the computer to drop out cylinders but not at wide open throttle. I'm not sure what the voltage on the TPS was even at idle though. The last thing he told us was to go ahead and run it and he would make some calls to try to come up with some more ideas on it. As of yet he hasn't let him know anything new so I thought I would see if anyone else has run accross this.
