i fished with a guy last weekend that makes his own jigs and i was really impressed with them and want to try and do the same thing
the question i have is on the normal molds that you buy can you modify them or do you have to start with a plain blank mold.
and with the blank mold how do you get the cavity in it do you cut it out or somethin? and what do you use to make the cavity?
Luke, you can use a Dremel tool to do a lot of mods to a mold, and you can often find used molds at flea mkts or yard sales that have large enough areas to make a new cavity in. If you make a mistake & want to repair it, clean well with acetone & smear in some JB Weld, it'll last quite a while. I make almost all of my jigs, spinnerbaits & buzzers now, if you know what you want out of it & do a little thinking, you can make almost anything you want. If it's a "from scratch" design, I make a master out of Sculpey polymer clay, bake it so it's hard & then use it as a "try till it fits" piece to cut the mold cavity.
