    A-rig jig heads

What are the best jig heads for using with the A-rig? 1/16oz or 1/8oz etc.., round or pointed..

    Thanks

Guess that depends where you're going to be using it. Don't think head shape is important - they're seeing the shape of the swimbaits/grubs. Weight is an issue with depth you're running it. I use weights from 1/8 to 1/4 depending on how I want it to run. Regardless of jig weight - I want them to have 5/0 hooks.

Only thing that's really important is to use light wire hooks. You will get hung. Using a broomstick rod and 65lb. braid if you're hung up with heavy wire hooks - you're not getting loose and you will leave $40 in baits on the bottom. Use light wire and back the drag off. Should a fish straighten a hook, the drag's set too tight.

I use my home made ones they are shake it 1/8oz-3/8oz depending on water depth and use a modified style 9 shad head for my center wire 1/4-3/4oz this head has a flateye that comes out on the nose point instead of halfway back the head it also holds a 5/0 standard wire mustad flateye hook

Question, How do your tie the A rig on the line, can you use a snap or tie it on?

I tie mine with a sandiego jam knot and I would never use a snap 5 snaps on 1 rig is bad enough I have straightened snaps with 65lb braid so you could straighten the one you tie to just as well

I agree about the weight but the hook has to match the size of the swimbait. Put a 5/0 hook in a 3.5" bait and you kill the tail action on most thin-tail baits (swim fluke jr for example).

I use 1/8 oz with 3/0 thin wires 99% of the time. Color & shape are meaningless.

I will move to 5/0 when I move to 5" later in the year.
