We catch too many on mono to justify switching to all fluorocarbon for every application. I'm a young old schooler, but I hate paying so much for fishing tackle
I have been using Floro for awhile now, great line for cranking and worming, but I just don't fish a whole lot with Little League and all. The line has alot of memory even though I use Line Conditioner, but I figure since I don't go enough, it causes nice tangles from time to time. I will probably be switching back to PLine Premium for everything.

I have tried a bunch of lines from mono to copolymer to braid and floro.
I have found I am starting to move more back to mono and braid with some braid with floro leaders. Overall I am not a big fan of pure floro.
Braid with a mono leader. I use it on everything, even for cranking (which I don't do much of)
Ranting incoherently
I do a lot of different setups for different conditions, but if I chose just one, it would be braid with fluoro leader.
It all depends on the setup i'm throwing.
Worms, jigs, crankbaits, plastics, any flipping in moderate cover: Fluoro
Topwaters, spinnerbaits, chatterbait (dedicated rod), frogs, heavy cover apps: Braid. Braid with a fluoro leader in clear water.
I don't throw mono at all. Just never been happy with the springy, spongy feeling of mono.

If I fish braid with a fluro or mono leader, how long should the leader be? Is the leader just tied to the fluro or use a swivel?
1996 Nitro 170TF Rick Clunn Edition
I tie my leader directly to the main line with a uni-to-uni knot. Very easy to tie, and slips through most guides easily. I say most, because i'm yet to use it on a micro-guide rod.
I generally start with a pretty long leader. I pitch a LOT, so mine usually start out just shorter than my rod. Seems like in most cases casting with a leader tied on is no problem, but when pitching with one it occasionally hangs up for just a second in the guides. I'm guessing pitching just doesn't generate the energy that casting does.
Having a leader nearly as long as my rod gives me enough leader that i can retie often to remove nicks and rough spots from the leader. If i started with a short leader, i'd only get a few re-ties before i had to tie on a whole new leader.
But if you're not concerned about re-tying, i'd base my leader length on the water clarity. The clearer the water, the longer the leader.
HERE is a good demonstration. The only thing i do different, is i take more like 7 to 8 wraps in each knot, depending on the size of the line. More for braid, as it seems like mine pull through too easy.

Braid with a fluro leader for everything except topwater and some deep cranks.
90 % of the time mono is all i use carbon in real clear water or fishing on bottom
12 to 15 mono on baitcasters, sometimes a leader of Power Pro
6 to 10 mono on spinning.
The only time I use carbon is in ultra clear lakes, like Oneida Lake.
Mono with a braid leader works really really well. I use about a 16 leader of braid. I really like using the braid leader when throwing a buzzbait.
Why do people fish, some say people fish to get fish, this is obviously false
fluro... for me... the best in SUNLINE sniper... all I use...![]()
new to the game ...but I'm with fishkicker on that floro all the way
