Lucky E-Strike Jerkbait split ring question.

need advise from the jerkbait users out there. I have just started to learn how to use jerkbaits. I have learned a great deal from the comments made on here about the different jerkbaits out there. I ordered a bunch of the lucky e-strike jerkbaits and a couple of megabass jerkbaits. I have to say I really cannot tell a difference between the 2, except for the split rings on the lucke e-strike. My question is what size split rings do you recommend changing out too? And what brand do you recommend. I had some split rings (do not know the brand) and change out one of the jerkbaits to experiment, I also switched the hooks to #6 Mustad KVD hooks. It caused the bait to sink very slowly at 44 degrees. But the split rings started to rust after one outing. So I am needing advise on what split rings to use.

I use owner hyperwire split rings size 1 or 2 depending on the hooks I use as replacements as you dont want the bait to rise or sink no matter the water temp I use lead tape from an electrical supply warehouse (the kind that is used to balance fans) and apply it on the front of the bait behind the lip or lead fly tying wire and wrap it around the front hook and heat shrink it to keep it in place
