    Texas Rig Rod for plastics

I was trying to use my new Dobyns 734C FH this weekend for casting plastics and it seemed to be a great balance and sensitive enough but a little too much of a meat stick. I am wanting to stay with the Dobyns Champion line but would like to hear others opinions on a rod for casting t-rig plastics. I have been looking at the Dobyns 683C but would like other opinions.

    Thanks

Re: Texas Rig Rod for plastics (BassnIllini)

I personally don't like the under 7' rods for anything but finess fishing. I use my 683 for 1/4 oz dartheads, tubes, and very small texas rigs. For most plastics fishing I prefer the 733. I like the longer rod to make long casts and take up more line on the hookset. I think you are on to the right power rating, I would just suggest a little longer rod, unless you really are looking for a finess type rod. Having said that, I did catch a 9+ lber on my 683 on a dropshot rig.
