Serial # R 08271078 Model TE150SLCEM 1989 Evenrude XP150.
Had some issues with tilt trim sticking last time in the water, was going to change out the fluid as it has not been changed recently and the boat has sat a lot recently.
What is the procedure (ie: tools, process) for changing the fluid as I only see one plug on the tilt trim Reservoir?

Welcome to the BBC.
The steps listed below will take at least one big guy to lift the engine.
Place the engine all the way down and remove the manual release valve drain the fluid, this will make a mess, then press the up trim button and then down a few seconds until all fluid is expelled.
Raise the engine to the service bracket and lock into place, refill trim system.
Run trim up and down refilling the trim unit until the trim lifts the engine off the service bracket, run engine up and down refilling trim unit till full.
Is it really necessary to change the fluid in the tilt and trim?
If you can't run with the big dogs, just stay on the porch.

Nope, most likely will not help with his issue, most times the trim unit needs to be replaced.

What kind of fluid is usually installed? I bought OMC tilt trim fluid but it is clear where as what came out of unit was red and smelled just like auto trans fluid?
As for the trim sticking it would stick in up position, I could release the bleed and the engine would lower, then work fine the rest of the day. Other days it would work fine all morning then stick, work fine after release the rest of the day.
The OMC fluid was red but now the BRP fluid is clear.
Thanks guys for the advise. I drained the fluid and re-filled per your instructions and cannot get it to duplicate what happened last year. I have trimmed up and left, trimmed to differant positions and after a wait trim worked just fine. Changed the fluid over two weeks ago and go out several times a week and cycle and seems to be fine.
