bought new 6'8" ML drop shot extreme combo ...

I am new to dropshotting, any tips you guys could point a brother out to doing? I plan on spending a lot of time on Table Rock and Stockton. I got the combo for $77.00 so I couldn't pass it up. Well anyways any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Drop shot, wacky rig, light jigs, split shot rig, light cranks/topwater.

Did you get the combo w/ the wide spool extreme reel? Put 6 lb Yozuri Ultrasoft or P-line on the mono spool & 10 lb(4 lb dia) Sufix braid on the braid spool.

I drop shot quite often for smllamouth and sometimes for largemouth around here. I prefer Gamakatzu wide gap finnesse hooks unless in cover where I texpose the lure. You usually have to let the fish tell you what they want but my starting point is to let the bait sink, pull the weight and lure a foot or two, then let the bait sink to the bottom again, repeat. you can also twitch it, make it pulsate, hop it, drag it like a c rig, or any combination of the above.
You can do almost anything with this rig and using your imagination can pay dividends.

Oh, and using it horizontally can be as, if not more, effective than a vertical presentation.

Dont try to cross their eyes on the hook set, just a flick of the wrist is all that is needed on it. That is what I still need to work on myself.

Drop shotting is my favorite method. On a slow day I will toss it out a ways and actually move the boat TO THE BAIT leaving it stationary. This often will get the finicky fish to pick it up. I even fish it around and under docks. It's a great presentation for nearly any type of water. Patience and perseverance are key... fish it till you catch fish. Let the fish tell you what presentation they want. Then keep fishing it. When I first started fishing it I would go out with ONLY the DS rod.

Make sure the hook is attached with the hook point pointed up. I use a Palomar then run the tag end back down through the eye. I tie the hook 6inch to 24inch above the weight depending on how the fish are positioned on the structure. I use a Palomar knot then run the tag end back down through the eye. Over working the bait is common for most drop shotters. Keep the weight in constant contact with the bottom unless you are fishing suspended fish and hold the rod still and gently raise and lower the tip letting the bait fail to the bottom then raising it until you feel the weight again. I get a lot of bites holding the rod tip dead still. One of my favorite ways to fish a drop shot is on the Secret Weapon Lures recoil rig. There is a great video on their website at http://secretweaponlures.com/spectastic.htm

    good Luck
