15hp hop up

I fish some tourneys on a limited hp lake.I run my boat real light and still get smoked to the hotspots from the same guys everytime. I know a few tricks they use, 15hp carb, power prop like for a pontoon boat just wondering if i upped the compression by milling the head and hone and rering if that would help me keep up? oh yea there is a 10hp limit so everyone puts 9.9 decals on there motors. my motor is a 1985 15 hp johnson any help is greatly appericiated.

Wish we could help but, we don't do hop up here, even on a 15HP.

Re: 15hp hop up (RUSTY63)

Get a 25 and change the decals.

And he's right, no hop up, I already asked.

Here is a question I would ask you to consider. How do the other guys engines sit? Is there a chance they sit higher on the transom then yours? The reason I ask is my friends, who like me, hop up everything, raised their engines on their johnboats when they were teenagers. According to them, it made a difference.

There are things you can do to a 9.9-15 that will improve the output, we just dont do that here.

Mike it has been asked before and the same answer was given. If he says he doesn't want to have motor hoping up on here then why keep asking?

Re: 15hp hop up (ohio mike)

Mike, Rusty is a great guy and I hope I don't get on his bad side for asking you this question, but aren't the newer 25's about the same size as the old 9.9-15's? I would do that ONLY if your boat is actually rated for a 25HP or larger motor. The last thing you would ever want to do is over-power a boat. The lawsuites would be endless if something happened.

My serious answer would be to keep the bottom of your boat waxed and slick. That should help about as much as anything else. I would think all the weight should be in the back also. My first boat was an old HD Jon boat rated for a 25. I started with a 6hp Chrysler and thought I had a fast ride. When I put a 25 Johnny on it, it was great with two folks in it. My partner would sit on the bow to plane it out and then move to the rear. By myself, that silly little boat would stand straight up and you never were sure which way it was going.

Re: 15hp hop up (aquasonic)

I love hopped up motors but except for me most of the guys on here are running near stock motors so if you want some really good advise cruise on over to ScreamandFly.com and ask there. These guys have hopped up just about every outboard ever made.

Re: 15hp hop up (chuck21)

It'll be 2 more months until they get the high speed low-water-pickup gearcase ready.

I understand that the 9,9-15hp series of mini-Rakers and mini-Renegades will be available shortly.

About engine availability, at this time BRP is consulting with Rusty to see which sparkplugs to use.

HERE IS WHAT YOU DO GET A MERCURY SUPPER 10 OR THE MERCURY HURRICANE THEY ARE HARD TO FIND BUT ACTUALLY THE HP IS 20 HP

THE WIZZARD ALSO IS THE SAME AS THE HURRICANE BUT RUNS BACKWARDS

EXAMPLE THE HURRICANE WILL PUSH A 16" JOHN BOAT APP 40 MPH FAST
THESE MOTORS WERE BUILT IN THE LATE 50,S AND 60,S
