    help guys

went to the lake this past weekend and as soon as i unloaded i knew somethin was wrong i lost a lot of top end and the boat would barely get out of the hole seemed like it was bogging down bad. it did that all day. went sunday to pull the boat out and was gonna take it to the shop when i got home and it run just fine good holeshot and god top end. could it have had a little something in a carb maybe and finally worked it out?
i live on a gravel road and its been really dusty lately. and i dont have a cover for the motor so could it possibly be getting in through the cowling?
the second prob i am havein is that when idling like pulling away from the bank or through timber like i had to last weekend when i go to get into it it seems to want to die and it does it more than once almost like its gettin to much gas or something.
i can take and feather the throttle and it will finally get goin but its a real pain. i also noticed that idling in gear its only idling at like 600 rpm. is that too low?

any ideas would be a big help
    thanks,luke

That seems a little low I believe, my motor is also idling alot lower this past weekend. Not sure if its the warm muggy air or what. Its actually idling around 700 or so as to its previous RPM of 900.

Luke, anything is possible but we will need more info, have you checked the compression, ignition?

For sure the idle is too low, remove the air box, motor off, and prime the fuel bulb, see if any of the carbs are flooding.

    Re: help guys (LEGACY_HUNTER02)

ok john heres what i found
    good spark on all cyls.
    compression
    100 top 2cyl (1-2 im guessin)
    95 on middle 2(3-4)
    90 on bottom 2(5-6)
trimed motor all the way up and primed bulb till hard and held it and didnt see any carbs flooding,or any leaks anywhere.
would it hurt to do a decarb?i got a can and i dont really know if its ever been done since i just got the boat in feb.

    Re: help guys (LEGACY_HUNTER02)

Everything looks ok, a bit low, so you should do the decarb.

The problem you had may just have been a bit of trash in one of the carbs like you posted.

Did you check the throttle plates to see if they open all the way? (motor off)
Also, see if when they are full open you can push the bottom two closed, there is a connector that slips sometimes.

    Re: help guys (RUSTY63)

so its a lil low on compression john?is that anything i should worry about?
as far as the throttle plates i have a hot foot and i opened it up (motor off ) and the seemed to be all the way open.
on the bottom to plates should i just open it up and see if i can close them?

Nope don't try and close them just take an allen wrench and make sure the bolts are tight on the sleeves between the top carbs and bottoms.Just thought about sumthin, on your carb linkage check and see if the clear roller is gone where the throttle are hits the linkage. If it is totally black then the clear roller is gone if it is worn this could be part of you problem. On your top right carb you'll see the roller that hits the throttle linkage. CM

Yes, with the throttle plates open see if you can close the bottom two.

The motor should be warm when you check compression as it will bring the numbers up, I check them cold but have been doing this for a while now so I know what to look for.
