Has anyone had much success with using snaps tied to the end of your line then snap them to your bait as opposed to tying line directly to the bait or ring? I heard about this last night from a friend. He told me less chance of line damage.![]()

I like to use smap clips on cranks or split rings. To me it seems to give a little more wobble to the crank bait. On spinner if I use a snap clip its only to find whats working ( so I dont have to keep tieing ) and when I do I tie it on. THe clips have a tendency to slide up the spinner. I may not be doing the right thing to some but it works for me. JMO.
Good Luck.
I tied directly to spinnerbaits and prefer either good quality snaps or the oval split rings. If you go with the snaps, remove all your split ring or just replace them with the ovals. Don't forget you still need to retie occasionally with either.
I've been using the Norman Speed Clips for years and love them. Never had any fail on me either. I also cut all my split rings off to. Seems to mess up the bait action having the rings and clips at the same time.

You can slip a piece of surgical tubing over the eye area of a spinnerbait/buzzbait and leave a small "eye" in front of the tubing. Saw this in one of the magazines tips area.
I remove the split rings on all my crankbaits and use a good quaility snap. It makes changing cranks much easier and does'nt hinder the action. Agreed you do need to retie when ever you feel any nick or abrasion on your line. Some times out of sure laziness I go several outings before retieing but always do before a tournament. Larry Brumley
