    Fluke with waited hook?

Anybody fish a fluke like this?I don't know the exact name of the hook but I have some 5/0 wide gap hooks with lead weight built on the body of the hook. I fished this some last summer and caught a few but could never get a good hook set in the fish. I lost 70% of fish.

I do some but most of the time i jsut fish them weightless they are really dense and weigh quite a bit so i dont use a weighted hook a lot on them

    Try these bad boys out!

I like to use them sometimes. It tends to let you fish a little faster, without ending up with as much line twist. They work great with senkos too...JMHO

I use those Mustads with the weighted hooks as well - they're awesome. Depending on where you move the weight - sets the fall of the bait. Move it forward - it swims to the bottom. Move the weight back to the hook bend - you can swim the bait or it will sink slowly to the bottom.

BTW - these are also fantastic hooks to fish Ribbits on! If you ever have problems with the belly side of the bait staying down - use the 1/8th oz. weighted hook, with the weight moved back to the hook bend. It will always run true with the pearl side down.

I use a weighted hook to fish my flukes some of the time.
I use a Hookerz 4/0 or 5/0 J-bend hook. I rig it thru the head... THEN wrap lead wire around the hook shank and the thru the body and skin it. With the lead wire, I can add or subtract as much weight I want to make the fluke react to how I want. You can also slide the lead wire up or down the shank to make the fluke dive or tail fall. This works for me in most cases when I use a weighted hook.

I usually just nose hook them with a DS hook, and if weight is needed, stick a nail weight in them.

While I love the Mustad hooks, the keeper on them has a lot to be desired. I usually cut their keeper off and put on a spring type. It holds the nose of the bait much better and will not come out near as easy as the stock Mustad keeper.

I do fish these with flukes and have caught a lot fish with them.

I use the 5/0 powerlock plus. Move the weight to the hook bend and they run true with the back a little lower in the water. I haven't used the bull ribbits but the standard ribbit in watermellon / red flake w/ pearl belly is a go-to in the mornings for me. It will set off the spots that have seen a few too many buzz baits.

try a 3/0 Gamakatsu wide gap with a #7 split- shot for the weight. I lived on toledo bend & this really worked when I wanted a little weight.

Re: Fluke with waited hook? (spotman)

If I am not worried about hangups or getting fouled in weeds etc, I add a stinger hook. I thread the hook through the nose of the bait and before pushing it up through the body I thread a small treble hook onto the shank. After securing the fluke onto the main hook I take one point of the treble and insert it into the bottom of the fluke to keep it secure. I also add a hook keeper similar to the ones used on spinnerbait trailers to keep the treble from being thrown off.

GAMAKATSU MAKES A FLUKE KEEPER HOOK, THAT MAKES THE FLUKE LAST LONGER, ITS CALED A SKIP GAP 4-0... I LIKE PLAYING WITH THE ACTION SO I USE A NAIL FOR WEIGHT AND EXPERIMENT WITH IT, TO MAKE IT DO DIFFERENT THINGS....

Re: Fluke with waited hook? (spotman)

I don't normally use a weight; with that being said the way the fluke falls with a weight is not realistic of a typical baitfish and I think alot of fish will key on this and pass. If you use a big wire hook the densitiy of the bait and the hook will have a more realist rate of fall.
