Punchin through through the matted Veg

after you guys punch through what do you do next? should the bait be allowed to fall to the bottom? do you guys just punch through and just bang it up against the bottom of the grass? what do you guys like to do? i want to try some of this this year up here in the north east river, but as slow as this technique is i do not want to make it even more lethargic.

w/ mat bangin patience is a virtue.if you get in a hurry you might as well do something else.once thru the mat let bait go to bottom on a controlled fall.alot of times the bite will come on the fall.w/ slack line you'll miss most of the bites.the fish will relate to the bottom ,suspended or tight to underside of mat.you have to work all three areas. once you get bit and determine where they're positioned you can focus on that area.it takes 30-45 sec. in any one hole, but dont space your holes too far.most times a bass wont chase under a mat. you have to drop it in front of him to get bit.look for any change in the mats, your lookin for 5 bites a day.here in fla. like rodmans where you have acres and acres of mats it gets overwhelming and will frustrate youbut once you get the hang of it it can be very rewarding.

Listen to gatrboy52, I've caught multiple big fish from one small hole on Rodman, after punching many acres. Usually there is a key as to where to punch if you can find it. It could be some wood and vegetation or a combination of vegetation types, hard bottom areas, or submerged rocks.
