IMO...the coldest would be around 56-58 degrees water temp....I think it would be a definite bonus to throw them early spring.

I have caught swimbait fish in 46 degree water, my favorite time to fish swimbaits is when the water is 50-60 degrees.
I used to have good luck in early spring by swimming a grub in SW MO lakes. I would think a swim bait should work then too. I've not tried it tho.
