    WHAT LINE DO YOU USE?

on your crankbait set up?.i use a kistler t.s. rod and 10#an 40.im losing way too many fish that come up and spit the hook.ive tried every technique to try and keep them from breaking the surface but the bigger fish dont cooperate. yes,i change hooks, ive used triple grips, gammy ewg's,t-3's.i think im not getting good enough hookset to keep em buttoned up and the only thing tackle wise i know to change is the line that has less stretch.

I like P-line Halo but if you don't want to spend that much money Gamma Copolymer is very good for the price.(purple box)

I use 10# XL. I like the stretch since I'm fishing with a St. Croix Premeir 7'M rod. It's not a crankbait rod. I thought the stretch was good and helped keep them buttoned up. But, I guess I can see how you may not get a good hookset if there's too much stretch.

I've never had any problem though (knock on wood)

#10 Copolymer........I have been using Vicious Ultimate and it has been good so far..............I used Silver Thread B4 and was good Line......am I reading that you are using AN-40 line? Maybe try Silver Thread Excaliber....I had a lot of that too. Just remember you want a little stretch with cranking

If I'm using shallow cranks I go to #12 and a shorter rod.....sometimes MH if I am using a lure 1/2oz or more.

Before you change anything, maybe relax a little and let your rod and line work. Stop the "jig" hookset, just sweep and reel the bait into the fish, give him a little eating time. Don't try to horse the fish or try to stop him from jumping or running, just constant steady pressure will bring him to the net. Big fish on crankbaits are lost more from rushing them than letting your equipment work. I've landed many skin hooked fish over 5 pounds on crankbaits but you usually can't rush the job.

ill have to agree with David dont rush them baby them on the rod and let the rod do the work for you i have a Falcon Cara rection rod and it is great to throw a crank on it has a much diffrent action to it being very slow in my opinion the rod is more important than the line size........i just use line size to get to the depth that i want.......i normally use 10lb P-Line Halo though

I think it is probably more your rod or rod position that is costing you fish. Dont see line costing you fish if you can hook them and are not breaking them off.

For cranking I like a rod with a limber tip. This absorbs some of the shock as the fish pulls. When fighting a fish I usually keep my rod fairly low (between knee level and the water) and try to keep them down. Seems like if you hold the rod higher, they seem more apt to jump.

10 pound sunline Sniper fluro and if I go to a heavier line then I use Sunline shooter from 12 pound on up. I also use a fiberglass rod for cranks.
