    Another drop shot question

Ive been thinking about trying dropshotting for quite some time. Ive even got a rod rigged up ready to go, but confidence always keeps me using something else.

Anyway, my question is does the weight have to be on the bottom for the rig to work correctly? For example you find suspended spots on a bluff, or suspended fish over a channel swing, can you let the bait down to their depth, and the rig work even if the fish are suspended over 40 foot of water? Hope that makes sense.

If the fish are truly suspended in 40ft of water I think Doodling would be a better technique than DSing IMO

DSing is made ot more of a bottom presentaion and that said to be above weeds/brush piles or atleast off the bottom from 12" to 3 feet at times......but when trying to split the difference in 30-50 ft of water.....this is not the method to go to.

I do it both ways. Cast it out and work the sinker like a T-rig, or work the suspended fish while watching my graph. In both cases I call it dropshotting, and use the same rig for both. Others may have a differant name for each presentation.

On Table Rock that is the way the DS is fished most of the time, for truly suspended fish.

    20 LB Sack,

I had heard that guys used the DS like that on Table Rock, Ouachita, etc.

In fact I was told to use the DS like that on Tenkiller, and even tried it in practice. Had a few bites, but didnt get anything in the boat.

Any secrets to using it for suspended fish you'd like to give?

Problem with 2 hooks on a ds is when your going after spots. The tend to hang out in groups and if you hook one the others go nuts and will hit anything. If you hang 2 on 6 to 8 lb line and that little hook, they'll break you off just about every time, if you do land one chances are it won't be the bigger.
