Buzzbaits.. is there a brand that runs true??

Hey guys, I've been trying to find a buzzbait that doesnt come through the water layed over to the left (left as you look at it, coming back toward you).. The other day I tried 5 different buzz's that I have and all of em did the same thing.. I tried bending and tuning, but nothing made much difference.. At very slow speed a couple of them run ok, but then they're wanting to go under the water surface.. So, does anyone know of a buzzbait that'll run true at normal retrieve speeds?? Thanks..

3 blade BuzzKing...you can pull it much slower because of the 3 blades...it gets good lift and comes to the top with only a crank or two...never had any problem with it running funny...

You could always use the ones with two blades on it. I think booyah makes them. The blades run in opposite directions so it runs about as straight as your going to get.

Try a Cavitron Buzzbait I think you will like the way they run...

I use both right and left running buzzers to my advantage. While throwing down the length of a pier or similar structure, you can get the bait to run underneath and bump into the posts. I think the majority of the buzzers run from right to left, and it's hard to find the ones with the reverse twist blades that run from left to right. I have bought the double bladed buzzers (they have counter-rotating blades) so that I could rob the blades to make a matched pair of single bladed buzzers just for that purpose (hit both sides of the piers). I know this didn't answer your question, but it may give you a good use for those rotten dog-tracking baits that you've got . . . . or . . . . . you could send them to me. I'll give them a good home.

And while we're on the subject, if anyone knows of a source where I could buy both left AND right twist blades . . . . just the blades, let me know.

I've found that if my retrieve speed is too fast, the bait runs a little sideways. I try to run the bait so that I just do hear a little gurgle. This typically means I dont see much if any water splashing, only making some ripples and gurgling.

I know Booyah makes something called the Counterstrike Buzzbait. it has one normal looking buzzbait blade with a second, partial looking blade right behind it. This bait is supposed to run pretty straight. Also, there are multiple manufactuerers who make the double bladed buzz baits that are side by side, essentially in a "V" in the front. I have one and it runs perfectly straight. It's by Hart. Caught a fish first cast with it. I can really slow down the buzzing with this bait and keep it on top of the water. Works really well for largemouth in my area because they seem pretty lazy.

I'm thinking of trying the booyah counterstrike. It looks pretty good.

My personal favorite is Boogerman. They are by far the loudest I have ever heard and they run pretty straight.

3 blade is the way to go. gives you more ways to run the same bait. burn it, you can use a slow retieve and still get alot of splash.

Believe it or not, Bagley makes a GREAT buzzbait. Always run true. I would've said they are the only ones I would ever buy but I tried some HeavyCovers this week and they run true too. I'll probably just keep a good supply of both from now on.

I am curious, do you guys "pre squeek" you buzz baits? I always catch more fish on my older buzz baits... and besides the fact is that is what I try to throw, it seems the squeekier they are the better they get hit... 18 years ago, when I went on my first bass fishing trip with my pops and uncle, my Texas Uncle had several buzz baits wired up to his truck antena, they stayed there on the 1 hour 70mph drive to the lake.. he swore by it... he never threw a buzz bait that didn't go through this initiation... man those were some wore out blade guides by the time they got tied to my line.. but I caught my first bass on a buzz bait... I was sold..

I dont use one enough to get worry about it.. But if I was a big buzzbaiter, I'd probably look into it.. They definitely seem to draw more strikes if they squeek..

Anyone have tips for pre squeeking, other than the antenna trick? I only live 5 mins from the ramp.. It'd take me a month of fishin trips to pre squeek it like that!

mick I either use my air compessor with a air nozzle or I have a fan out in the garage that I tie a bunch too i tip the fan forward so the baits hang down and let them spin overnight. I make my own 3/8 and 1/2 baits and I bend the frames like the cavitron's better hookups in my book.
For a different squeak go to the hardware store and buy some stainless steel pop rivets nock the stems out and use them. some people pinch the rivet down so it won't spin.
If you decide to bend the frame on some start the downward bend where the blade is closest to the wire and bend it down so it's parralell with the leading edge off the blade. then just bend the buzzbait backup head up level. I've experimented with differnt bend angles and placements and this seems to be the best it'll run right along with the head about 1 to 1 1/2 below the surface I can get them to lay over on their side but i have to really burn them fast.

I like the 2 blade Booyah lures, they run nice a smooth and straight, also check your knot and make sure it is not running your center too one side or the other.

If I want the baits to run true and straight, the bouble buzzes are definately the props to use... but most of the time, since I fish trees and rip rap / and chunk rock more than reed and grass, I like to use the singles and I try to make sure they don't run straight... I like when they run left or right because I really want them to bang into the trees hard... Man I love a buzz bait strike, simply the best in bass fishing in my opinion.

I have experienced the same problem with several buzzbaits I have used. I now throw Secret Weapon lures buzzbait. With the blade behind the buzzer it keeps the buzzbait true running. You can check them out @
