    Compression Test Results

I have a 92 Evinrude 200 XP. I had not been getting the desired performance out of it so I did a compression test. All six cylinders read between 70-75psi with the dry test, and 75-80psi with the wet test. I figured I should be getting 100psi or better. Are these numbers ok? I kinda wanted to go through the motor and rebuild it since it has never been done. What is everyone elses opinion?

pretty low compession #'s You will need a rebuild assuming your gauge is acurate and that you did the test correctly

Depending on heads on your motor those numbers may not be terrible bad. As long as all the numbers are 15% overall you are OK. Comp gauges vary. The 92's did come with low comp heads.

    What is desired performance?

Compression numbers look fine for your gauge.

    Re: Compression Test Results (ELGIN)

The boat has lost many miles per hour in the past 9 months and the fuel and oil consumption is pretty bad. I only get about 1 and 1/2 miles per gallon! People with the same boat/motor are goin 10-15 mph faster than me. The motor has never been taken apart so I figured it would be good to freshen it up with a fresh set of rings + rebuild carbs and fuel pump. I just want it to run the best that it can.

Could be cylinder head temps, broke reeds, gear case about to give up, fat chick hiding in your boat, forgot to take the drain plug out in the last rain storm.

Yea, them fat chicks hiding in your boat will do it every time.

If you can't run with the big dogs, just stay on the porch.
