    Drop shot

    when is the best time to drop shot (any season).

    You can use it all the time. Its a good alternative to a c-rig, but is is most helpful when bass are suspending deep.

    I consider the dropshot sort of a finesse style of Carolina rig.

    With the dropshot you can catch fish anytime, under any conditions, however when it really shines is when you are facing tough conditions, such as high pressure or highly pressured lakes.

    With a Carolina rig you are dragging a bait along, but with the dropshot you are often keeping it in one spot and just shaking it on a semi-tight line without actually moving it, making it appear to quiver etc a foot or two off the bottom. I always pictured it as a minnow.

    You can use a straight worm with a Carolina rig, but often use baits with more movement, like Lizards, or Brush Hogs etc. With a Dropshot, however, you really want a short straight body.
