    For a new bass fisherman

what suggestions would you make? This being someone who knows NOTHING about the sport. Knows nothing about the bait types, rod/reels, or the lingo that come with it....... Start with videos, find a club to join, trial and error???? How would you tell someone that has never fished for bass what to do first??

Start by throwing crankbait and spinnerbaits, DON'T START WITH THE WORM. Once you get hooked on the worm its hard to throw the others. You get good numbers with the worm but you'll often get better fish with cb & sb.
Go as a coangler preferrably with different boaters untill you get confidence in what your doing.

I would tell them to get on here and go through this entire forum(it will help)buut,,it would be best to hook up with someone and be shown!!very hard to tell some things!!when I quit fishing the first time(17 years ago)I thought I knew a lot(I know I know)but when I started back I found I knew very little but had a friend at that time that had knowhow but no boat and he was very helpfull and was happy to teach me to be able to go(pretty much gave free lessons for free boat rides and days on the water)same as I would do right now!!!!!!!!!
I have the knowhow, knowledge on a lot of stuff but still doesnt help sometimes!!!but there is also so much I dont know it isnt funny!I do a ton of reading on it and get the basics then I always try that something differant on each and every trip(even if just goint to the duckpond)I also mix up some things that look like a hill of beans to some people but they work for me
and I agree::worm fishing is addictive and you'll find yourself NOT fishing other stuff and just wormin all the time

Joining a club sounds like the best idea to me.

I agree. Join a club as a non boater and fish with different anglers. At each meeting you will be paired with a partner and after meeting ask what to expect on tourney day. You will then be able to prepare rods etc for the type of fishing you will be doing/ Don't worry about winning or losing, but focus on learning different techniques, and why and when to use them.

Getting online and asking questions etc also helps a great deal, but nothing can replace time spent on the water

Re: For a new bass fisherman (Bass Hawk 87)

You will find that there are different techniques that catch fish on given circumstances. Go with as many different people as you can and learn several different ways to fish and fish the way you feel most confident. The biggest mistake new bass fishermen make is that they become a spot fisherman. I was guilty of this for a long time. Just because you caught fish on a spot does not mean that place is going to be good year round. I am a believer that the people who put fish in the boat regularly are not really that better at fishing a certain technique/style than the average person. The best fishermen (in my opinion) excel because they know how to read the weather and water conditions and eliminate un productive water. I would try to learn as much if not more on where to fish as opposed to what technique to fish.
