What are some of your favorite spring tactics for fishing rivers. Not sure if I am on the right track and need your expert opinions. Thanks.
The water temp is 53-56 degrees and water color is slightly stained.

In water that cold I would look for any backwaters that also have some depth to them, at least around 8 foot of water in them. If you have to stay to the main river I'd look for eddies and current breaks where the fish can get out of the current. That cool of water the fish more than likely won't want to be fighting the current so they will look for something to get out of it. Places like that are where I would concentrate. I'd be throwing jigs, crankbaits, slow spinnerbaits, and if I could find some pretty clear water throw a jerkbait. This is what I usually do here on the Ohio River early in the year.
I am fishing the river right now but the water temp is only 45-47 degrees and I am catching bass on wood in 2' to 10' of water.
