    Fuel leaking

I have a 1990 Johnson 150 (model number TJ150SLESB). Last night after I changed spark plugs and fuel filter I noticed something that I thought was strange when I primed it. Once the primer bubble was fairly firm if I squeezed it again fuel would squirt out the bottom of something that was above the fuel filter(I believe its the solenoid primer but I am not a mechanic so I cant be certain). Can I assume this is not normal or am I wrong and it is supposed to do that perhaps to prevent over pressurization?

Sounds like a cracked cap on the primer solenoid, It's a replaceable part and cheap. No fuel leak under the cowl is good.

Sometimes the fuel shrinks the o-ring around the red lever. MIGHT just need the o-ring.

Turns out it was the vacuum switch which is no longer manufactured. After inspecting some other parts I found there was a crack in the fuel intake for the VRO. After talking with the Johnson guys at my local dealership they suggested removing the VRO, and eliminating the need for the vacuum switch, with a regular fuel pump and mixing the fuel myself.

I thought this was going to be a lot more difficult than it was. The toughest part was replacing all of the hose clamps that had broken and were also leaking fuel. Those little buggers under the carbs are a pain!

Semi true, the vacuum switch is still in production but the switch and bracket are NLA. The switch part number is 0586034 and has a suggested list of $111.63. You would need to also order the retainer ring to mount it on your existing bracket. I wouldn't run with out one as it monitors fuel starvation that could lead to a lean condition and possible melt down.
