What would be better to use, unleaded gasoline, 87 octane, with 10% ethanol in it or premium unleaded 92 octane with no ethanol in it?
2004 225HO DI(not the ETEC)
Thanks, Brad

Other than bang for your bucks....nothing...you will still have the associated ethanol problems.

+1 If the same station is selling 87 with 10% ethanol then the 89 and 92 has 10% ethanol also.
The premium pump has a sticker on it saying "100% gasoline". That's why I figured there was no ethanol in it. Will the 92 octane rating hurt my engine at all?
Thanks again, Brad
I've never seen a station that sold both ethanol and nonethanol fuel. This sounds to me like a plot to increase profits by encouraging people to buy the more expensive fuel.
Move to Increase Ethanol Blend Levels
Alarms Boat Owners
On March 6, 2009, a new pro-ethanol lobbying organization called Growth Energy and 54 ethanol manufacturers formally requested that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) increase ethanol blend levels in gasoline up to 15 percent (E15). As is required by law, EPA on April 21 wrote a Notice for Comment in the Federal Register, beginning a 30-day public comment period. On May 15, the EPA extended the comment period. The original public comment period was slated to end on May 21, 2009 but will now be extended to July 20, 2009.
Ethanol Advocates are mobilizing their forces to submit 20,000 favorable comments to the EPA requesting that the Agency grant a waiver for E15.
There are 18 million boats currently in operation in the U.S., and none of them has been designed, certified or warrantied to run on anything above E10, the current maximum legal blend level. Boaters know very well that increased ethanol blends will cause performance problems with their boats and engines, increase maintenance costs, potentially pose safety risks and increase air pollution. E15 will also void manufacturer warranties.
And yet, neither EPA nor any other federal agency has done a single test on the impacts of E15 on marine engines, fuel systems, or components. NMMA asks you to support a science first approach and urge EPA to deny the ethanol industry's E15 waiver request unless and until independent and comprehensive scientific testing is completed on a full range of marine engines and other products.

I sympathize with you but here is your future http://e85vehicles.com/ notice no mention of the marine industry...where are they.

Will 92 octane be alright to use in my Evinrude DI?
87 is recommended, you can use 89 but 92 will not burn clean in it, I would not use it. I use 87 and SeaFoam, some use marine Stable. You can never know if ethanol in in the fuel just treat it as if it is. JMO.

It's easy to verify ethanol content in the gas your buying.Since not all states require pumps to label it's ethanol content, I would want to verify it's presence & percentage.I would also avoid alcohol-based additives such as 2+4.

Steve it would not be smart to argue with this mod on this subject unless you are a BRP certified master tech.![]()
Not arguing at all.........I just trust the manufacturer of 2+4 ( Gold Eagle Co. ) would be well qualified to make the same statement.
Also , Mercury did finally change their formula to a non-alcohol based fuel additive.
If you do use 2+4, as the can states; DO NOT USE MORE THAN RECOMMENDED DOSAGE. It absorbs moisture as does ethanol & will separate at .5 % . The octane is therefore reduced.
I'm willing to bet $$$$ that BRP changes the formula w/in 3 yrs. Call & talk w/ Gold Eagle as I have ...........I want to do what is best for my E-TEC & hopefully my comments will be taken in a constructive manner![]()
