Is it the same thing as Mercury's Premium Plus?

Mercury Verado 350
No, it's not the same thing a Mercury or Quicksilver Premium Plus. I'm not saying it's not good oil, because I've heard some good things about the Penzoil. But Penzoil is not the manufacturer of Mercury/Quicksilver lubricants.
I guess I worded it wrong Greg. Are the two oils comparable? Can you use the Penzoil Premium Plus in place of Mercury Premium Plus?

I have been running it in my Merc 3.0 since I bought it in 05. In fact I have always used it untill I bought the Opti. and now Merc has brain washed me into using their $30 gallon oil, they say their oil has special ingredients in itBoth oils offer the same warranty if the motor blows due to oil failure
can you stan to spend 50 grand tring to prove that the oil caused you motor to blow.

Its as good as better as Merc Premium Plus HOWEVER...Mother Merc recently changed the oil recommendation on Optimax motors!! Premium Plus is no longer the recommended oil.

Glen, if you don't have a Pro XS, the recommended oil has always been Mercury/Quicksilver DFI oil. If you have a Pro XS motor, the recommended oil was Premium Plus up until last month, at which time Mercury has decided that the DFI oil offers better protection.
My thoughts are that nothing was changed inside my motor last month, and the Premium Plus is still the same oil, so if it was the best from 2006 until last month, it's still good enough.![]()
Im with you on that Greg. The last time I looked at the MSDS, Merc oil is from Citgo. Ive always deferred to Jay Smith (JSRE Racing) and have pretty much followed his recommendations.
Roger that Rob.....Merc Prem Plus is basically the same oil as Citgo Marine Premium oil. Merc has them throw in a couple of additives so they can call it a proprietary blend.![]()
When I bought my bought I was told by the seller that Penzoil is all he ran in the motor. I switched back to Merc. just because. Its been doing fine, even though I switched back to Merc from Pen.
Well I am glad I could help some people out. Now I can buy 4 gallons for the price of one![]()
You guys still lucky , here in Raliegh the sam stores its still $14.86 a gal and wal mart its still $15.99 a gal![]()
