    JAMES RIVER/POWELS CREEK

I dont know how to get in/out of this creek, it is very close to my house and want to learn. I can see it is a huge flat out in front and has debris all over the place. Does any one know or can show me how to get in there. I am willing to take someone that knows for boat ride/fishing for the day that knows. Thanks in advance.

    Re: JAMES RIVER/POWELS CREEK (newbob)

I have idled the edge of the flat, could not find any channel. If there is one it is small and hard to find, I did see one guy in a triton come out of the creek on the left side and saw another guy run in on the right. Both places on low tide i could see logs/stumps in those areas. Dont know if they are lucky or knew what there was doing.

If you are coming from say Hopewell,go almost past creek then turn and come back across mouth at an angle towards those white stick-ups,once you get in creek you are ok,then be careful, cant remember which one but in one turn there is an old sunken barge in middle of creek, not sure if its still marked, good luck hope this helps, mighty good fishing in powells

There is no channel going into Powell's creek. Follow Bumperjack's instructions and trim your motor up real high until you get into the creek. Then you are good to go!

Lots of props and L/U's have become Powells victims. I've only been once in a buddies boat, seems like Bumperjacks description is about right from what I recall.

    Wonder's whose boat that was.

As far as getting in there bumperjack is right? Also as far as that barge in the channel, it is on a hard right hand turn. I have it GPSed, there are also a few other obtacles as you get further back in the creek.

Cello, I don't recall ever fishing there with you, just every other creek on the river
Is that where Robbies "Trophy Prop" came from?

I had you in there once, and no not where "Robbies Trophy" came from. That prop was a victim of the Potomac.

    Re: JAMES RIVER/POWELS CREEK (vafishing)

Have not been in there in a couple years, but what was said above is waht I remember. I have never found a channel going into that creek. I always have ran the left side, trimmed up an went. On low tide I have kicked up some mud, but never have hit anything going in.

However, you know that barge others are speaking about above....well I hit that about 10 years ago. Its in a hard right turn of the creek. It tore the engine off the back of my boat. the only thing holding the engine on was the steering cables.
That was in a 1988 Winner boat, and it did no damage to the transom. That was one tough boat.

It was a pretty funny sight when i rolled up into Sandersons towing a boat with no engine, and the Mercury 150 laying in the back of my truck.

Caught some nice Bass in there.
