    Wanted to say hello

Greetings All, just moved to VA and wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I'm living in Smithfield and looking forward to putting the boat on the water once i get the house unpacked. From the looks of things....there is a ton of water around to get a boat wet and i'm excited to get after it.

Spent most of my time in Texas and the last year i lived in Kansas (military type), looking forward to meeting some of ya and wave if you see a Gray and White Champion with Texas Tags on it

This is my third "State forum" on BBC in a year...hopefully i'll be here awhile

    Brian

weclcome Brian, as much as I hate to say it, you'll be disappointed with our quality of fish when campared to those Texas monsters.

but, good luck and happy fishing.

    Welcome to the area.

If you make it down to northeastern NC and see a 202 green and gray Champion that should be my son in the front. If you see and old guy in the back seat with a funny hat on, that's me.

Welcome to the Va Forum Brian!

Living in Smithfield....you need to hook up with the "Mayor of Smithfield", Mike Allen..... I would tell you what boat to look for...but it would depend on the day of the week.... Mike will get you on some fish for sure!

Check out the Va Rally forum also....week of August 7th on Kerr...can't beat a good ole BBC Rally for great friends and fun!

If you haven't already, check out the Champion forum....won't find many that know more about Champion boats than our very own Va gal, Lea, also the moderator of the Champ board...

Re: Wanted to say hello (Igore67)

Welcome. The James River is an outstanding fishery. The fresh water line (or I should say the closest point north from the James River Bridge (JRB) where Ive caught lm bass) is roughly in the area of Gray's Creek and the Ferry area. There are times when people will run all the way down from Richmond to fish Gray's...but its hit and miss.

The most consistent area closest to you is the Chickahominy River (off the James). From Rt 10 north, you can launch at a dirt ramp on Gray's and run to the Chick or you can continue on to the ferry (its free and you can ferry your truck and boat) and be in close vicinity of ramps on the Chick.

I think there might be a few lm bass way up the Pagan River in Smithfield...touring pro Basil Bacon has been seen in there many years ago, but I never fished it in all the years that I lived in Smithfield.

Welcome Aboard the Virginia Boards Brian!

Joyce gave excellent advice about chatting with the mayor of Smithfield but I think he goes by "RangerBasscatGamblerStratosBulletGamblerPurpleHaz e" but I'm sure you can call him BlueSteel for short.

Welcome aboard. I hunt in smithfield and fish there some too. You will have to get used to the Va circus we got going on
The Chick will be the closest to you. Fish the tides...It will take some getting used too..

Sorry Rob, I have been back there for the last 5 years far as the boat will go and have not seen an bass yet. Caught everything but an bass. Drum, catfish, rockfish, croaker, spot..Seen an ton of Gar, but no bass...I go at least twice a year and they are no where to be seen. And its an tricky, tricky run(dangerous). It so shallow that you have to troll for an 1/2 mile to get back way in there. I even cut an tree to get back to the all fresh water..
