Can I run 9.9 e-start without battery connected?

Hi. I have a 1995 9.9 model E10EEOE and s/n G03741017. It is e-start and has cables to connect to battery. Can I run this safely without connecting a battery? What do I do with the pos and neg ends of the cables? Will this do any damage to the charging system? Thanks. By the way, is this outboard worth much on the market? I really don't need it and it is in extremely good condition - powerhead looks like new.

Yes there is a market for it Duck hunters love them things as to people that live on HP restricted lakes. The E-start makes it that much more attractive. Yep you can rope start it. Just tape up the ends and coil it up. I'd rather have the e-start though.

The e-start is nice but I only use this on a 12-foot Gregor to beach launch in the morning and run out to my boat on a mooring. I got tired of swimming. It's easier to handle the boat on the beach without the added weight of the battery. Thanks.
