250 HO running on 5 cyclinders

Hello to all, I'm new to this forum and would like to say that I have been very impressed with the wealth of knowledge here.
I recently bought my first bass boat, moving from an aluminum with a small Yamaha. This Thursday I took it to the lake for the first outing. I had 20 gallons of fuel in the tanks and maybe about 150lbs of gear at the most in the front lockers. After idling out past the no wake buoy I pushed the Hot foot to the floor and slowly climbed onto plane. I ran the boat for about 30-45mins not going over 4000 rpm. Filled the live well and it barely got onto plain. At this point I though it was propped wrong. The next day I returned with 40 gals in the tanks at it would not plane at all. Checked the prop and it is a 24" Raker. Returned home, pulled the motor cowl and discovered that I only had 5 (ignition modules?). Plug wire was dangling. I have contacted the dealer this weekend, expect a response Monday. My question is, is there any possible motor damage from running on 5 cylinders?

Don't believe you incurred any damage, from your avatar it looks like your are running an E-tec but a model and serial # would help in diagnosing and searching on service history for your motor. Yep re-attach the plug wire and run it and see how it performs. Plug wires sometimes get hung up in the motor cowl latches and get pulled off or a Tech may have been distracted on plug installation and left the wire off. Let us know how it does. Welcome to the Forums!!

    Thanks ChampioNman
The motor is an E250HGLSEF with Ser# 05257595.
The motor is actually missing an ignition module for that cylinder. Guess the tech robbed it for another motor and forgot to replace it.

Don't run it untill it has been replaced and you have properly kicked his azz for stealing parts off your motor.

Picked up the module from the dealer and installed it myself. Took her out to the lake this afternoon and she runs like a top.

Lack of ignition does not affect the motor. Lack of fuel, on the other hand.....

I would really love to hear the lame brain reason for the missing module.

    Regards,

If you can't run with the big dogs, just stay on the porch.

Really didn't get a reason. Got a "Sorry". That's it. I know they were busy, but it really ruined my July 4th weekend. The wife was more upset than I was.

    B. "You spent a lot on a boat, that wouldn't run"
Guess I may look elsewhere for service in the future, but we don't have very many options in our neighborhood around here.

I would guess that a tech needed a coil and that was the engine he borrowed it from.....Now there is a reasonable guess that the guy that started the motor when it was being prepared for delivery should have caught this but it would appear that did not happen.

Could I hear the explanation for this?
