Check valve Question

I am still troubleshooting my Trim system. The manual that I brought is not very helpful since it covers 65-89. No diagrams So any way I have 4 valve seat also known as a check valve, how can I test these to see if one of these are bad? They are very easy to get to if i am looking at the right thing on evinrude website. It looks like they are just the screw plugs on the assembly.
Also is there a way to test the pump control piston commonly called the shuttle valve?

To test those valves you will need special tools.

Elgin, Would it be a BAD move to just replace a 4 of them if it is a suspected item? $90.00 for all 4 of them?

You could but that may not fix the issue.

well I am going to try it out. I cannot find anyone in this area that will work on a 1983 115hp that can prove they are qualified. If that does not fix it then I will try the pump control piston. After that I guess that I am screwed, and will have to wait and get a remanfactured system down the road.
