If you see this guy out there.....

Me and my fishing partner (rocky) was on the mattaponi sat and his motor cut off would not re-start, we flaged a guy down in a red sportboat va751nm was the decal on the side of the boat, he refused to tow us in. We was only @ 2 miles from the ramp. I hope like hell he brakes down and nobody will help him let him free float on top of rocks and beat his boat all to hell and back. Sorry for the rant but it pissed me off royal. Does anyone know if it is legal to pass someone requesting aid?

I believe they do not have to render assistance if it is Not an emergency, sucks but I think I'm right.

I know i would never leave anyone needing a tow or help on the water. And I dont think anyone on these board would either. Maybe its just the way I think most people are willing to help, and the first person you see is not willing to help.

I think you only HAVE to render assistance if there is an accident. Its a shame though. Losing power could be considered an emergency (in some situations) its a shame that they can't make common courtesy a law...
Sorry that happened to you guy's, I've been there. It's a long two miles on a TM

Even if it isn't a violation, I would send the Coast Guard a note about it.
Might at least get the guy a letter from the CG about boating safety!!

    What goes around....

There is no way I would ever refuse to help anyone on the water. Or elsewhere. Period!

My wife had to call 911 after we saw a boat jet ski accident at Gaston. Jet ski hit a dock broadside and the guy went under the dock. People on the dock got him out of the water and all he did was break some ribs and a collar bone. It is just common human decency to help another human out.

Sorry to hear about that Glen. It is ashame someone has to be like that. I was fortunate to come across the good boaters out there a couple of weeks ago. Broke down a long ways from the ramp. A gentleman in a tracker was going the opposite way, we decided not to flag him down since he wasn't going our way. He turned around and asked if we needed help. He said he figured something was wrong since we were trolling in the middle of the james with no lines out. He towed us a good ways much appreciated. Tried to give him some money and he wouldn't take it. We did tell him where we were on to some fish earlier in the week. Four hours later we get back to the rt 5 ramp only problem is my truck is at rivers rest. We asked a man and a women in a ski boat if they would take my partner to my truck at rivers rest they said sure. Again tried to offer some money and his response was no thanks, the only thing I ask is if you see someone else broke down please help them out. As they say what comes around goes around and most people that own a boat will probably need a tow sooner or later. I know I have had my share of tows.
