Crush n Run (crusher run), Fill, Sand...anything....

My boat is officially trapped on my property. There is an area of mud that even 4wd has a problem with.

Does anyone know a good, reliable source for fill and dozer work? Possibly, a dump truck backing in could do the job, but I don't know enough about that sort of thing.

For those familiar...it is the section after you pass the first field and head down into the hollow. The downslope is slick and the deeper mud is at the bottom from the end of the slope to the dam (pond on right). Although the other end of the dam has a big puddle just up a bit, the bottom of that is solid and has caused no problems.

It appears some crusher run on the downslope and then a bunch to fill the mud hole is what is most needed right now.

    Thanks!

I bet Greg or Mike can come up with a name for you of someone local to get the materials from...a good dump truck driver should be able to tailgate spread it through there...

we can use your tractor to spread it out a bit if the blade you have will fit it....

I do know that if you want the job to last a long time, it requires for you to have someone dig out the top soil first, lay some sand and then the crush n run....if you are looking for a quick fix then yes you could just spread out some crush n run over the mud hole. Most dump trucks are no longer allowed to do a tailgate spread unless you can sweet talk them but I have spread out a many of dump truck loads of crush n run with a tractor and box blade.....takes a little while but can be done (helps if you have a front end loader with your tractor). Vulcan may help you out with getting you some crush n run.

    Re: Crush n Run (Just_add_water)

If this lane was my property, I'd spend the big $ and fix it right...but it is not. It is referred to as a hostile easement and is used by hunters and farmers... The hunters helped a couple of years ago...with a few pick up loads or rock and pea gravel...but that was just to fill a few solid bottom holes. This is different. I just need to be able to get in and out....alone as well as with my boat!

Despite hints to the farmer...no assistance there...

Crush and run may wash away. I would use small to medium sized rip rap.

Good point on the slope. Been there and done that. At the bottom, the crush and run should hold well, but rock underneath would be even better.

Both Mike Cherry and Patrick McMath have IMd me. I have my fingers crossed!!!!!

Hey Lea, if you can find a source close to your place we can use my dump trailer and 4x4 to put some in, The trailer can tailgate spread if done correctly and there won't be a problem getting a large dump truck in or out.

Lea...see if the rock quarry sells what they call Rail Road stone....its a small version of rip rap and its used alot for construction sites. It holds really well. Crush and run or ABC as the quarry calls it...will sink if its that muddy.

crush and run locks gravel together and makes it compact. I build houses and when i put in a new driveway you first put in a big rock as mentioned above. Otherwise the small rock will disappear during construction and can't take the heavy equipment deliveries. Once the job is complete we put a smaller rock with crush and run over it to keep the gravel from leaving. Crush and run alone over a soggy ground will become muck.

the best choice would be to use asphalt millings that you can get behind the VULCAN plant on portsmouth blvd (diagonal from SEAPORT MARINE) ITS BRANCOME ASPHALT or get some # 57 stone From the stone yard across from the Franklinairport or IM me and tell me where this path is and il come look at it and see whats best I live in carrsville so it shouldnt take lond to get there

Re: Crush n Run (Blue Steel)

Thanks to all who responded. The fellow that Mike got me in touch with, came out this AM. He has a 24 ft trailer, but it's too wet for him to bring it in (no place to turn it around since yard is too wet), so he is going to get a regular dump truck and bring in a load of broken block Friday. After I get that area stabilized, I will plan on improving it and some other areas down in the hollow and up on the higher ground.

He is to call me tomorrow and firm up Appt for Friday.

Jonathan, I am 3 miles from the 258 ramp (you turn right on the road where a left turn would take you to Dockside Restaurant)...come out and visit anytime....

I hope to heck this works out. If not, I will be back in touch!!! Thank you!!!!!
