Hello from Sunny and Warm Florida

Hey Guys, just checking in from Florida, temp was 80* and sunny when we arrived yesterday afternoon, drive was uneventful with the exception of a short bout of car sickness from my youngest son, spent about 5 min. standing on the side of the road in the cold rain

temps today are supposed to be in the mid 70*'s and sunny, headed into the park to see if I can wedge my big arse on some of the rides.

ya'll have a safe and happy X-mas, and I'll see if I can smuggle some of the warmth back home with me, don't know though, these people are pretty stingy about it.

Re: Hello from Sunny and Warm Florida (sprint_lover)

I just got back from being down just south of Ocala.

Fished several smaller lakes, and spent 3 days of ~12hrs on the Harris chain (Harris, Little Harris, Griffin, Eustis). Weather was awesome except it did rain one day when the temps only hit mid- to upper-50's. Rest was 70's to low-80's.

Unfortunately, we didn't catch a whole lot...less than a dozen each over the 7 days we fished. It's really, really slow this time of year. We talked to some pros and THEY said they had a hard time getting a bite.

Went up a river off Harris with crystal clear water and watched dozens of bass - some easily 8+lbs - snub noses at everything we threw at them.

But it was fun. And I finally convinced my father in law to just run up the Ocklawaha river a while. Well, some 3.5hrs later we decided we needed to turn back around. The river starts out a few hundred yards wide. After going through a set of locks, it narrow significantly - a person could stand on one bank and cast to the other - but it runs consistently 8' deep. And we finally got to see some of the non-native monkeys that were introduced to the area some time ago. Game warden told us last year to shoot any/all on sight, but didn't bring anything other than fishing tackle with us.

I wanted to check out the river because I'm thinking about taking a boat trip with my dad on his boat down the Intracoastal all the way to Jacksonville FL, where we can pick up the St. John's River and eventually the Ocklawaha. Starting at my dads house on Brewer's Creek over there in Carrollton, we could eventually arrive just 15 minutes from my inlaws.
