How do I prepare it for cookin. Meat is already skinned. Never had fresh deer meat before and don't want to ruin it or get sick.
soak them in salt water for a day or two, then you can cook it like a ham in the oven. you also can boil it for awhile first and then cook it in the oven real slow and the meat will pull right off the bone. salt and pepper it real good serve with mash potatoes and gravy and what ever veggie you like. tasty
Here ya go Levi.....choose what you want to do with it but the best one I have tried is the deer roast near the bottom which will work for you ham if you have a roaster pot......

Mrs Firebasser, Courtland not good for hunting?
Courtland dont have any big deer.....they are all small.......
Take ham and soak it in salt water for a day
Pat it dry
make small slits in the meat and slide thin slices of garlic in slits
take melted butter and rub over meat
take bacon strips and toothpick it covering the ham
set oven on 350 and bake for 1 to 2 hours while basting it every 20 min.
