To Rattle or not to Rattle...that is the question

So nobody else is bored? Anyways, my buddie thinks that rattles are really going to improve fishing the t-rig with either worm rattles or weight rattles. What do ya'll think? I like to jig so if i wanted something that rattled, i would usually pick up the jig.

I've tried them the last few times out. I can't see that they have made any difference, I still can't catch many either way. But I'm still going to keep trying the rattles.

I switched to a non-rattle jig last spring. Since I truly believe I have caught as many or more fish. I also think I have caught more big fish (over 5lbs) than ever before....even at night....even in stained water.

Re: To Rattle or not to Rattle...that is the question (pete 1)

I started fishing jigs allot last year. I've caught just as many on rattles as I have without, although if the water is really muddy or stained I tend to grab for one with a rattle.

As for the C-rig, I've only ever thrown it using a glass bead below the sinker. Never thrown it without the bead, so I really can't say whether it helps or not....but if I'm throwing a C-rig, I need all the help I can get

I know what you mean about the C-rig. I found a great place to use the C-rig last week. Couldn't believe that I didn't get any hits. I was in 10 feet of water with many stumps and humping bottom plus on a point. Got a few bass in the boat with crankbait but nothing with the C-rig.

As far as jig fishing, this is my theory (my theories are a lot like the American dollar right now--not worth much). I almost always throw rattling jigs and here is why. 85% of the hits I get from the jig is on the fall. The other 15% is from reeling, yo-yoing, dragging or shaking. I do not believe there is a lot of noise being produced on just the jig falling anyways. My favorite technique is letting the jig hit bottom and then I shake it. I may also put slack on the line and bounce it trying to get a reaction strike. Also I fish a lot of stained water which plays a big part in my decision. The only time I do not throw rattling jigs in stained water is when I downsize and the bass are finicky or if I am throwing into branchy structure where I make enough noise with the jig hitting the structure.
