No Oil Light- 2004 DFI 175 HP

Wondering if anyone has suggestions on what my issue was. I was about 60 miles offshore and had the warning go off. I immedietly shut the motor off, waited about 15 minutes and then restarted. It did fine for about 10-15 minutes then I got the warning again. Continued to do this the whole way in, everytime i would shut the motor off and wait and restart. problably happened 10 times. does it sounds more like a bad sensor of the pump going bad? I ended up getting a whole oil pump assembly and swapped everythign out but am curious if the pump was my problem or not.

Also, is it likely I did any damage on the way in?

Model and serial number and what codes where stored?

not sure about codes. I don't have anyway to check them. i might take it to a tech to look everything over and check the codes. The oil Pumps looked slightly different, although they were off the same year 175hp evinrude. Hope that isn't a pronblem. I will try to post up a pic of the 2 oil pumps.

I have seen the Ficht software on ebay with the cable needed. WOudl I be able to tell much if I bought the software without being a trained tech?
