Alot of patience, any lure can make them bite. I usually try to match the sunfish that are swimming around the beds, with a watermelon red Ugly Otter. I have also had alot of success on senkos. You have to know whether the bass is catchable or not depending upon there attitude. If they start circling the bed, and flaring there gills, then look out, it is on.
Daryl--If you want to get some practice at bed fishing, go to SML in about 4 weeks. That place will be awesome on the next full moon. Also the Chick is putting up some good numbers. My team tournament partner fished the ABA last Sunday and won with a little over 20lbs.
Daryl, I found that after throwing the entire tackle box at a bedding fish, if you drag a Slider worm across the bed they're usually pretty receptive to it.![]()

Do you really want me to talk about boats right now?????![]()
The best place I know to really learn about how fish react is Lake Phelps, due to the gin clear water. I love that place!

Well my prefered method is a tube. I like to cast or pitch it just past the bed. Bounce it up and down a few times, let it sit a few seconds, then pop it right into the bed. Works great when I can see the fish on the beds. If the water is dark or I can't get in close enough, I'll still throw the tube or a senko.

No need to wait that long, there's a full moon this month that will have a bunch of fish spawning. The weather may be a little more predictable in May but its gonna be on here in a week or two.
I found some smallmouths circling/fanning beds in 56 degree water two days ago.

Big white tube to get them going and then a purple jig or lizard. Alot depends on if the bass is locked on the bed.
