    Painting a Fiberglass boat

Im thinking of painting my 98 model Triton. Gel coat is in rough condition so I thought about buying the Hex camo template and some spray paint. Has anyone done this on a glass boat? Only videos I see are done on aluminum boats.

If it isn’t metal flake or too far gone, I would buff it out. Will look better than paint.

Buff it out and wrap it. Can get whatever pattern/color you want and if you do it yourself you save huge money.

A friend of mine used to paint a lot of boats, Usually faded gelcoat,, He used Imron paint, That stuff was tougher than Superman's knee cap, It would stay.

Don't think you will be satisfied, especially over the long term. A wrap makes more sense to me.

I've used Penetrol as a paint additive to help it flow out. What will Penetrol do on gelcoat?

I restored an old Sabre and had it painted by a friend who owns a body shop near the Fox Chain of lakes in northern IL and also paints a lot of boats, a lot of the bigger go fast boats are painted. He told me it's all in the prep as far as how good it looks and how well it'll hold up. It was sanded and primed before paint. I don't remember what he used but I do remember him mentioning Awl Grip at one point. It looked great, white top and dark gray boot. He charged me $1700 but I think I got a deal. For me it was cheaper than a wrap and I was really happy with how it came out.

You might be surprised at how well it can turn out with a buffer and the right products. Just finished my new to me Baja that had a lot of oxidation and it turned out looking brand new. Followed this guys instructions on youtube and same products and I couldn't believe the results. I had a lot of sweat hours and beers involved also.
