    Axle Spindle Replacement Problems

I bought a galvanized trailer as a project. The frame is in great shape but it needs to be refitted with some TLC and new parts. I am down to one final problem and that is a damaged spindle on the right side (passenger side of truck) that includes flattening and a gouge on the bottom and damages journal for the rear seal. A sleeve is not going to fix the flattening and gouge on the bottom that apparently resulted from a previous bearing failure.

It is/appears to be an adjustable galvanized EZ Loader trailer but the stupid vinyl tags they use on the exterior and the confidential/inside the tube positions are missing. The fenders had EZ Loader on them and it appears to match up with phots of its trailers. I have been on EZL's website searching for parts and have a call into its rather smaller customer service and parts department that never answers a live call and returns calls up to 3 days later according to its voicemail message. I need to move faster to get this fixed.

The axle is a drop axle, the spindle is welded to the top, and there is a rectangular flange/bracket at the end of the axle tube through which the spindle passes. Small fasteners that appear to be rivets attach the spindle to that bracket. I have searched a number of websites dedicated to trailer parts and boat trailer parts and cannot find an exact match of a no. 84 spindle with an elongated bracket that would weld right on the end and top. I cannot find a video on youtube demonstrating the replacement of a spindle like it in a drop axle configuration.

Is this spindle replaced by punching rivets, leaving the rectangular flange/bracket (longer on the bottom), cutting the spindle loose at its bottom (where it is welded to the top of the tube), inserting the new spindle, replacing the rivets, and then welding it at its bottom to the top of the tube?

The red marks point to the fasteners inside the elongated, rectangular flange.

This Sea Lion spindle has a "drop flange" and resembles mine but this one has more graduated sized steps in than the stock unit.

Some years ago I bought spindles from Agri Supply and made my own axle. They have axles also and are the cheapest place I found.
