Mercury Racing decal

Don just a couple questions for you regarding the large red decal on the back of the pic attached. I was told it comes with the R motor? Apparently it's multiple pieces and is extremely thick (for a decal). Have you had any experience with this decal in any negative way? I had ordered a boat with that motor and will be picking it up in a few weeks and will ask the dealer to install that decal pretty much based on yours or anyone else's opinion on here. Thanks for any feedback. Steve

I’m sure Don will chime in on this & give you a good answer but those pieces are not decals. They are plastic panels with 3m double sided tape to attach them to the cowling. I have had them on my 300R for 5+ yrs. in all kinds of weather & 80+ mph conditions & there is no sign of them coming off. The same product is what automakers use to attach emblems & mouldings to autos.

The 250/300R engines come with the red panels with the HP decals attached. It is 4 pieces that attach with high-tack 3M double stick tape. Once attached its not coming off without damaging the panels unless you use extreme care while doing so. We have painted them to match as well.

Thanks guys for the info. I called up the boat mfg and they said they don't put them on at the plant but rather let the dealer do it. I will have the dealer install them. Thanks again and Don, not necessary for a response, members were helpful ��

I removed them by see-sawing monofilament line under the raised letters (from a spare cowl insert). Then I used 3M two sided tape to install them to the painted inserts on my 300R.
